How the deadline works
Under Md. Rule 2-321, the answer is due within 30 days after service of the summons and complaint. Default 30 days (in-state service); 60 days if served out-of-state within the U.S. or on a state/federal agency; 90 days if served outside the U.S. A Rule 2-322 preliminary motion extends the answer to 15 days after the court rules. When the triggering paper is served by mail, Rule 1-203(c) adds 3 days for service by mail. A deadline landing on a weekend or court holiday moves to the next business day.
